A delegation from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has met the chief election commissioner, A M M Nasir Uddin, as preparations continue for the country’s 13th Jatiya Sangsad election and an accompanying referendum.

The meeting took place on Thursday afternoon at the Election Commission building in Agargaon, Dhaka. Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of the BNP standing committee, led the meeting shortly after 1:30pm.

Party officials said the discussion focused on issues related to the upcoming polls, although no details of the talks were immediately disclosed.

Members of the BNP delegation included advisory council member Ismail Zabihullah, former acting election commission secretary Dr Mohammad Zakaria and Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal.

The election commission was represented by its senior secretary, Akhtar Ahmed, alongside other officials.

The meeting comes amid heightened political activity as parties engage with the election authority ahead of the parliamentary election and referendum, both seen as key events in Bangladesh’s political calendar.
