Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said the party would create employment opportunities for 15 million people within 18 months if it comes to power following the next general election.

He made the announcement on Saturday while addressing an election rally in Auliapur Union of Sadar Upazila in Thakurgaon district.

Fakhrul said the job creation pledge was part of a broader economic plan outlined by BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman.

“This is a commitment of our party chairman to create jobs for 15 million people,” he told supporters.

The BNP leader said the party planned to introduce a “family card” scheme aimed at supporting women, describing it as an effective tool for poverty alleviation. He said the initiative would enable women to directly meet the daily needs of their families.

Fakhrul also said agricultural cards would be introduced for farmers, allowing them to access various state-supported facilities. In addition, he pledged that affordable and accessible healthcare services would be ensured for ordinary citizens through the introduction of health cards.

Turning to the upcoming general election, the BNP secretary general said the vote would be held on 12 February and described it as crucial for restoring democracy in the country.

Addressing voters in his constituency, Fakhrul, who is contesting the Thakurgaon-1 seat, urged people to support the BNP’s election symbol, the sheaf of paddy.

“If you support me, I will try to raise the voice of the people in parliament,” he said.

He also pledged to work sincerely for rural development and said the BNP was committed to ensuring the safety and rights of people of all religious communities across Bangladesh if elected.
