BNP alliance candidate and Bangladesh Jatiya Party chairman Andalib Rahman Partha has formally launched his election campaign in Bhola ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary elections.

Partha arrived at Bhola Sadar Kheyaghat from Dhaka via Barishal by speedboat at around 11:30 am local time on Saturday. He was welcomed by large numbers of leaders and activists from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and the Bangladesh Jatiya Party, who greeted him with flowers.

Following his arrival, a large procession was organised from the Kheyaghat area. The march moved through key roads in the town before concluding in front of the district Bangladesh Jatiya Party office in Notunbazar at around 3:15 pm.

Addressing a rally outside the party office, Partha said the BNP and BJP shared a long-standing and cordial political relationship in Bhola. He said unity between the two parties was essential and described their alliance as a partnership with no alternative in the district.

He also said courageous leadership was necessary to establish people’s rights and restore democratic governance. Partha said he had previously shown the resolve to speak out openly against Sheikh Hasina during what he described as a period of authoritarian rule.

Calling on voters, he said the people of Bhola would elect a representative who would work for their welfare in parliament. He sought public cooperation in addressing the district’s development demands and urged all political forces to work together to establish good governance and restore democracy.

The rally was attended by Bhola district BJP president Amirul Islam Ratan and general secretary Motasim Billah, as well as a large number of leaders and activists from both BNP and BJP.

Supporters chanted slogans in favour of the cow cart, the electoral symbol of the Bangladesh Jatiya Party, throughout the procession.

After concluding the programme, Partha returned to his residence in the Ukil Para area of the town at around 4:45 pm.
