BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is set to address three separate public rallies in Cumilla on Sunday as part of his campaign for the 13th national parliamentary election, marking his return to the district after a gap of 21 years.

Tarique Rahman will speak as the chief guest at rallies in Chauddagram, Sadar South and Daudkandi upazilas of the district.

As part of the BNP’s ongoing election campaign, the party chairman has been holding a series of rallies and mass contact programmes across different regions of the country. The Cumilla visit is a continuation of that campaign.

BNP district and upazila units, along with affiliated and associate organisations, have completed extensive preparations ahead of the visit.

According to the schedule, Tarique Rahman will address a rally at Chauddagram High School ground at 5.30 pm, Suagazi Phultatali Digbaji ground at 7.00 pm and Daudkandi Central Eidgah ground at 7.30 pm. He is scheduled to return to Dhaka later via Narayanganj.

Earlier, on January 22, Tarique Rahman returned to Dhaka after touring the Sylhet region and addressed rallies and public meetings in Brahmanbaria, Bhairab, Narsingdi and Narayanganj. On January 23, he conducted mass contact and held a rally in his constituency, Dhaka-17.

He arrived in Chattogram on Saturday night and, after holding programmes in different districts of the Chattogram Division on Sunday, is scheduled to proceed to Cumilla.

Cumilla South District BNP General Secretary Ashiqur Rahman Mahmud said a festive atmosphere was prevailing across the district surrounding the arrival of the party’s top leader.

He said all preparations to ensure the success of the rallies had been completed and expressed hope that the programmes would create a new wave of public support for the ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ symbol.

On-the-spot observations showed widespread enthusiasm among BNP leaders and activists in Cumilla ahead of Tarique Rahman’s arrival. Since morning, large numbers of party leaders and activists have gathered at the Suagazi Phultatali rally ground in Sadar South upazila.

Party leaders and activists said Tarique Rahman’s visit would further strengthen organisational unity and have a positive impact on BNP candidates in the upcoming election.
