BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman said the people must assert their own rights and be entrusted with full guardianship of their voting rights to ensure a truly democratic process.
"On the day of voting, you must go to the polling centre with the same presence as today's rally. You will offer the Fajr prayer in front of the polling centre and stand in the voting line,” he said at an election rally in Kanchpur of Narayanganj early Monday.
The BNP chairman again said that there have been dummy elections for the past 15-16 years while people’s voting rights were deprived.
“Conspiracies have started again,” the BNP chairman said calling upon all to remain united against these conspiracies and exercise their right of franchise on 12 February to claim their rights.
“We can only succeed if you stand by us," he added.
Referring to law and order in Narayanganj, Tarique Rahman categorically said that BNP, if voted to power, will work strictly to improve law and order in the area, “We will be strict on this matter... Action will be taken according to the country's laws regardless of party opinion,” he added.
In this context, he said the law-and-order situation in Narayanganj has been very bad over the past 15-16 years. Ordinary people as well as political party leaders and workers were not safe here.
Noting that corruption and drug abuse are other problems, he said, “We will take measures to eradicate these... There are 20 spots in Narayanganj City where drugs are being traded. We will take necessary measures to control these."
He further said that women must make special contributions to ensure BNP's victory in the upcoming election.
"During the time of Deshnetri Begum Khaleda Zia, arrangements were made for free education for the children of working-class people, especially for daughters,” he said adding, “Due to that plan of Khaleda Zia, millions of mothers and sisters received the light of education."
In this connection, he said, "We have now made a plan called the 'Family Card'... We want to provide Family Cards to the women and homemakers of working-class families from villages to cities”.
Through the cards, he said cash or food assistance for 7 to 10 days will be provided every month to each family.
Regarding employment generation, the BNP chairman said, "We will create employment opportunities for youth within and outside the country by imparting them professional training and on languages of the host country as well.
“We will provide honorariums and training to Imams and Khatibs of mosques and madrasas across the country so that their halal income increases further," he added.
Besides, he said, the BNP, if voted to power, will start canal excavation programmes across the country, including Narayanganj, to help solve water logging problems and protect rivers and canals from floods.
With Narayanganj District BNP Convenor Professor Mamun Mahmud in the chair, the party’s Joint Convenor Mashukul Islam Rajib moderated the programme.
Dhaka Divisional BNP Associate Organising Secretary Nazrul Islam Azad, Narayanganj-1 constituency candidate Mostafizur Rahman Bhuiyan Dipu, Narayanganj-3 candidate Azharul Islam Mannan, Narayanganj-4 candidate Monir Kasemi, and Narayanganj-5 candidate Abul Kalam, among others, also spoke on the occasion.
