European Union Ambassador to Bangladesh Michael Miller has held a meeting with the Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr Md Shafiqur Rahman, during a courtesy call in the capital.

The meeting took place on Thursday morning at Dr Rahman’s office in Dhaka’s Bashundhara residential area, according to a statement issued by Jamaat-e-Islami. Ambassador Miller was accompanied by Sebastian Rieger-Brown, First Secretary for Political Affairs at the European Union delegation in Bangladesh.

The upcoming national parliamentary elections in Bangladesh featured prominently in the discussion. Both leaders emphasised the need for a free, fair and credible electoral process, noting that a meaningful democratic exercise would play a crucial role in reinforcing democratic values in the country.

They also expressed optimism that the positive relationship between Bangladesh and the European Union would continue to expand, contributing to mutual development and long-term cooperation.

Dr Shafiqur Rahman was joined at the meeting by Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Central Publicity and Media Department Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair, Central Executive Council member Mobarak Hossain, and Foreign Affairs Adviser to the Ameer Professor Dr Mahmudul Hasan.
