After more than two decades, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman came to Rangpur and first visited the grave of the first martyr of the July Uprising Abu Sayeed at Babanpur Village in Pirganj Upazila at 6pm on Friday.

After visiting the grave, he inquired about the family members of martyr Abu Sayeed and talked to his father Md Mokbul Hossain and other relatives there.

At that time, Rangpur District BNP Convener and Pirganj-6 constituency’s BNP-nominated MP candidate Md Saiful Islam, Shaheed Abu Sayeed's father Md Mokbul Hossain, family members and BNP leaders were present.

Earlier, when Tarique Rahman entered Babanpur, thousands of leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organisations and common people welcomed him.             

Later on, Tarique Rahman left Babanpur to attend the divisional election rally at the Collectorate Eidgah ground in Rangpur City.

Meanwhile, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman came to Rangpur after a long time of almost two decades.

The party leaders and activists, along with the general public, have made various preparations to welcome him with joy and enthusiasm as he is coming to Rangpur after a long time.

He will address the divisional election rally in the late evening at the Collectorate Eidgah ground as part of the election campaign for the 13th Jatiya Sangsad Election.

The people of North Bengal, including the grassroots leaders and activists of the BNP, have become excited around his rally.

Some say that Tarique Rahman's visit will act as a tonic and will encourage voters to vote for the symbol 'Sheaf of Paddy'.

Tarique Rahman's election rally venue, the Collectorate ground, was filled to the brim before the afternoon. There is no place to keep sesame seeds.

The area around the election rally ground is also filled with the loud presence of workers and supporters.

Leaders and activists are carrying red and green flags, BNP party flags and rice ears in their hands at the rally ground.

Large processions were coming towards the ground from different places on the main road of Kachari Bazar in Rangpur City.

Big screens have been arranged at different intersections to listen to Tarique Rahman's speech live.

The Rangpur Divisional election rally officially began at around 4 pm.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has already arrived at the meeting venue.

It may be mentioned here that martyr Abu Sayeed was a student of the English Department of Begum Rokeya University. He was an active activist of the 2024 quota reform movement, who is known as the first martyr of the July Uprising.
