Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman expressed full confidence in the people on Saturday, saying the oppressed citizens of the country will make the right choice in the upcoming national election on 12 February.

“We want everyone to move forward through democratic means, abiding by rules and regulations, and respecting one another. We have full faith in the people. Insha’Allah, the oppressed will take the right decision on 12 February,” he said while addressing an election rally in Daudkandi Upazila of Cumilla.

Dr Shafiqur Rahman emphasised that a society that respects mothers is blessed by Almighty Allah, while a society that fails to show such respect loses divine mercy.

He expressed concern over recent incidents during the election campaign, alleging that in some areas, mothers and sisters are being subjected to humiliation and offensive remarks, particularly against women wearing hijab or niqab.

“Those who behave like this with mothers before the election, it is easy to understand what they may do if they come to power,” he warned, noting that such actions reflect the kind of future they intend to impose.

Urging the people to respect women, he said, “Respect for mothers and sisters brings dignity and honour from Allah.” Addressing women directly, he added that they should confidently assert their rights and dignity, stressing that mothers, who give birth to generations, must never bow before injustice.

The Jamaat Ameer clarified that while such misconduct cannot be tolerated, Jamaat-e-Islami does not seek conflict or disorder. “We believe in peaceful, democratic processes and respect for all,” he said.

Referring to the upcoming referendum, he described it as an opportunity to replace the old discriminatory system and build a just and humane Bangladesh. He said the election would mark the first step toward reforms aimed at creating a corruption-free nation.

Dr Shafiqur Rahman also highlighted that Jamaat-e-Islami is working alongside 11 political parties to build an inclusive Bangladesh, where people of all religions, opinions and backgrounds can live with justice and dignity.

“Wherever candidates have been nominated by the alliance, we will all work together for them, Insha’Allah,” he said.

Concluding his address, the Jamaat Ameer prayed for divine guidance to establish justice and fairness in the country, and urged citizens to participate peacefully in the election, placing their trust in Almighty Allah.
