BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman on Saturday accused Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami of attempting to mislead voters through unethical practices, warning that such tactics could jeopardise the nation if Jamaat comes to power.

Speaking at an election rally in Tangail, Tarique said, “I want to warn everyone that some quarters are trying to obstruct the election in different ways. Jamaat’s people are going door to door, especially targeting mothers and sisters, trying to collect NIDs and bKash numbers to confuse and deceive them.”

He urged citizens to inform family members and elders if they notice such activities. “Those who resort to unethical acts before the election will sell the country if they get the chance,” he cautioned.

Tarique also stressed the importance of voter vigilance, advising people to arrive early at polling stations and ensure no one casts votes in their name.

“Keep a close watch on polling centres to prevent fake voting and ensure genuine voters can exercise their rights,” he said.

Highlighting the significance of the coming days for nation-building, Tarique said, “This is a time for changing lives and creating a new beginning. If we remain united and alert, no one will be able to take away our rights, Inshallah.”

During the rally, he introduced BNP candidates from Tangail, including Swapan Fakir, Abdus Salam Pintu, Obaidur Haque Nasir, Lutfur Rahman Motin, Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, Rabiul Alam Lablu, Abul Kalam Azad Siddiqui and Ahmed Azam Khan, urging voters to ensure their victory.

The BNP chairman also focused on Tangail’s development potential, highlighting the region’s heritage, industries and agricultural products.

He pointed out that Tangail sarees and prayer caps are already exported internationally and emphasised that with proper planning, Tangail could become an industrial hub.

Tarique outlined plans to create jobs through small industries, jute mills, fruit-processing factories, and a barrage on the Jamuna River, stressing that coordinated efforts could bring positive change not only to Tangail but to the entire country.

“The people - the true owners of this country - must stand with BNP. If you support BNP and move BNP forward, Inshallah, we can gradually change the fate of the nation,” he said.

The rally was chaired by Tangail District BNP President Hasanuzzaman Shahin and conducted by former acting general secretary Mahmudul Haque Sabu.

Several central BNP leaders also spoke on the occasion.

As part of his northern region election campaign, Tarique Rahman addressed rallies in Rajshahi, Naogaon, Bogura, Rangpur, Sirajganj and Tangail within just two days. The Tangail rally marked the conclusion of his campaign in the northern region, after which he returned to Dhaka around 6:30pm.
