Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Wednesday said attempts to spread misinformation by hacking his verified X (formerly Twitter) account have failed, as the individual responsible has now been identified and taken into custody.

Speaking at an election rally organised by the 11-party alliance at Kurigram College ground, Shafiqur said his social media account was compromised four days ago to circulate false and misleading content.

“After the hacking incident, a group began attacking us with slogans like ‘tai re nai re’. Sadly, some senior figures also echoed those narratives,” he said. “But our cyber team swiftly traced the culprit, and law enforcement arrested him. Truth can never be suppressed.”

The Jamaat Ameer reiterated that the party does not seek to form a partisan or dynastic government, despite what he described as the party’s growing public support.

“We do not believe in family-based politics or rule by a particular group. Even our goal is not Jamaat’s victory alone - what we want is the victory of the country’s 18 crore people,” he told the gathering.

Recalling the 2024 movement in the Rangpur region, Shafiqur paid tribute to Abu Sayed, saying his courage played a key role in igniting the July uprising.

“He faced bullets to his chest, not his back. That is true bravery,” he said, calling the people of the region fortunate to have produced such a figure.

He also mentioned Abrar Fahad as the first martyr in the struggle against authoritarianism, followed by Abu Sayed, Sharif Osman Hadi and others. According to him, nearly 1,400 people have been martyred over the course of the movement.

“The blood of these heroes has soaked our soil and rivers. We will never betray their sacrifice,” he said.

Shafiqur further pledged that if Jamaat comes to power, development initiatives would begin from Kurigram, describing the district as one of the most neglected areas of the country.

NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Kurigram District Jamaat Ameer Azizur Rahman Swapan, candidates from Kurigram’s four constituencies, and senior leaders of Jamaat and the 11-party alliance were also present at the rally.
