National Citizen Party (NCP) Spokesperson Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan on Wednesday highlighted the importance of safeguarding citizens’ right to vote and ensuring free and fair elections, stressing that the people of Bangladesh remain vigilant against any attempts to undermine democracy.
Addressing an election rally in Singra Upazila of Natore in support of SM Zargis Kadir, the 11-party alliance candidate for Natore-3 constituency, Asif said that protecting the electoral process is a responsibility shared by all citizens.
“The people of Bangladesh have historically fought to exercise their voting rights, ensuring that governance reflects the will of the nation. Today, that vigilance remains crucial to prevent manipulation or misuse of administrative powers in the election,” he said.
Asif pointed to recent reports of presiding officers in Panchagarh allegedly instructing voters to support a specific candidate, calling it a “serious challenge to democratic integrity”.
He urged voters and political activists to remain alert, aware, and committed to upholding the principles of justice and good governance.
“The upcoming election is a critical moment for our democracy. Citizens must stand together to protect the fairness of the process, and ensure that every vote count,” he added.
Other speakers at the procession included SM Zargis Kadir, NCP Joint Convener Monira Sharmin, Natore District Senior Joint Member Secretary Hafizur Rahman and Joint Convener Tahash Noor.
The event also served as a platform to engage with local voters and raise awareness about the importance of active civic participation.
Asif concluded by emphasising that democracy depends not only on institutions but on the awareness and courage of the people, urging all to participate responsibly to strengthen the nation’s democratic framework.
