National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener and candidate for Dhaka-11 under the Jamaat-led 11-party alliance Nahid Islam expressed confidence on Wednesday that his alliance will secure victory in the upcoming 12 February national election, citing strong public support in his constituency.

Addressing reporters during electioneering in Dhaka’s Malibagh area, Nahid said voters are rallying behind the 11-party alliance as a stand against corruption, extortion and criminal influence in politics.

“People are responding overwhelmingly to our campaign. On 12 February, the ‘Shapla Koli’ symbol will triumph in Dhaka-11,” he said.

Nahid alleged that many opposition candidates lack credibility, describing them as loan defaulters, dual citizens, or involved in land grabbing, terrorism, and extortion.

“The opposition alliance has been unable to field any worthy challengers,” he claimed.

Highlighting broader concerns, Nahid warned of multi-layered conspiracies surrounding the election, suggesting both domestic and foreign elements are attempting to influence the outcome.

He called for vigilance to ensure a free and fair vote.

He also criticised attempts by certain political forces to manipulate media coverage, saying, “The media is being pressured to favour specific parties, while important incidents, such as potential takeover attempts at polling centres, may go unreported.”

Nahid emphasised that the NCP and the 11-party alliance remain committed to good governance, transparency and protecting citizens’ rights.

He urged voters to exercise their franchise responsibly to secure a corruption-free and accountable government.
