BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman on Wednesday pledged to elevate Faridpur to a full-fledged division if his party secures power in the upcoming 13th parliamentary election, emphasising that the move would accelerate development and improve governance in the region.
Addressing a massive election rally at the Government Rajendra College ground in Faridpur, Tarique said, “If the BNP forms the government and the creation of a Faridpur division benefits the people and accelerates development, we will take the necessary steps to establish it. Our commitment is to ensure that state power serves the people effectively.”
Arriving in Faridpur by helicopter at 2:40 pm after concluding a rally in Barishal, Tarique joined the enthusiastic supporters at the rally venue around 3 pm. The event drew local leaders, activists, and residents eager to hear the BNP chairman’s vision for the district.
Tarique Rahman highlighted Faridpur’s potential as an agriculture-based region and stressed the importance of modernising farming practices to boost productivity.
“Faridpur has fertile land and a thriving jute industry. With proper planning and investment, we can significantly increase exports and foreign currency earnings from this region,” he said.
He added that building a Padma barrage would address the chronic water scarcity issues faced during the dry season, ensuring sustainable irrigation for farmers.
On employment, Tarique emphasised the need to balance agricultural growth with industrial development to create jobs for local residents.
“Our goal is to develop both agriculture and industry so that the people of Faridpur can secure decent livelihoods and live with dignity,” he said.
The BNP chairman also reaffirmed the party’s broader commitment to decentralisation, transparency, and people-centred governance, noting that empowering districts like Faridpur would strengthen the nation as a whole.
