Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Saturday placed strong emphasis on the need for systemic reforms and accountable leadership, saying the country’s people deserve justice, security and transparent governance.

Addressing an election rally of the 11-party alliance at New Field Ground in Habiganj ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election, Shafiqur said Jamaat’s politics is centred on restoring public trust through integrity, fairness and responsibility in state affairs.

He said Jamaat aims to build a society where citizens feel safe in their homes, workplaces and public spaces, and where extortion, false cases and corruption no longer dictate daily life.

Recalling the ideals of the Liberation War, he questioned whether the current state of governance reflects the aspirations for which martyrs sacrificed their lives.

Referring to allegations of large-scale capital flight over the past one and a half decades, Shafiqur Rahman said national resources must be safeguarded for public welfare and development.

He stressed that future governments must be answerable to the people and held accountable for their actions.

Outlining Jamaat’s proposed governance framework, he said elected representatives would be required to disclose their annual income and expenditure publicly, ensuring transparency and preventing misuse of power.

He also pledged to establish equal justice under the law and strengthen institutional mechanisms to curb corruption.

Shafiqur Rahman further highlighted plans for reforms in education, employment generation, labour rights and rural industrial development, saying economic progress must benefit all sections of society.

Emphasising social harmony, he said Jamaat is committed to protecting religious freedom and ensuring equal rights and security for people of all faiths.

Calling on voters to support the alliance-backed candidates, he said the goal was not merely electoral success but the collective victory of the nation through justice-based governance, unity and accountable leadership.
