National Citizen Party’s (NCP) Chief Organiser for Southern region Hasnat Abdullah on Saturday criticised law enforcement, alleging that the police have reverted to “fascist behaviour.”

Speaking at an electoral street rally in Jashore, Hasnat cited recent police actions in Dhaka as a “test match,” warning of a troubling environment ahead of the national election.

Addressing an 11-party alliance gathering at Daratana Bhairab Chattar, he urged police officials to remain accountable to the state and their conscience, rather than serving any political party.

“Stand for justice and fairness,” Abdullah said, “Your duty is to the people of Bangladesh. Your salary comes from public funds, not the coffers of any political party. Supporting a political faction today will cost you tomorrow in bribes for your children’s future.”

He stressed that the police must operate as the “Police of Bangladesh” rather than acting as an arm of the BNP, Jamaat, or NCP.

Turning to electoral strategy, Hasnat instructed supporters, including members of Chhatra Shibir and Chhatra Shakti, to remain vigilant and occupy polling centres from 7:30am on election day until official results are declared.

He alleged that a political party is already plotting to capture polling centres.

Hasnat also criticised the BNP, claiming that grassroots activists are seeking liberation from “extortionist leaders” and hybrid figures who sidelined those affected by enforced disappearances over the past 17 years.

He predicted a fracture in voter loyalty, suggesting that while some grassroot workers may march under the BNP’s “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol, they are preparing to vote for the “Scales” (Jamaat) or “Shapla Koli” (NCP) symbols.

The rally was presided over by NCP’s Jashore District Coordinator Md Nuruzzaman, with speeches from Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Abdul Kader (Jashore-3) and NCP organiser Shakib Shahriar.
