Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Sunday announced that Nahid Islam, the Dhaka-11 constituency candidate and convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), will be appointed as a minister if the 11-party alliance secures victory in the 13th national parliamentary election.
Dr Shafiqur Rahman made the declaration during a lively election rally at Badda in the capital, urging young voters to embrace the responsibility of shaping Bangladesh’s future.
“Young friends, get ready to take responsibility for our country,” he said. “We have nominated Nahid Islam for Dhaka-11. In the future, he will be at the cockpit of the airplane called Bangladesh as the pilot, while we will sit in the back seats as passengers.”
The Jamaat Ameer stressed the historic significance of the 12 February election, calling it a continuation of the aspirations expressed on 5 August 2024. “12 February will not come again and again. The unfinished work of 5 August will be completed on 12 February. This is the day to repay the debt of the blood shed by my brothers and sisters who fought for the nation’s future,” he said.
He criticised previous leadership for lacking transparency and honesty, asserting that corruption, extortion, and mismanagement had held back Bangladesh’s progress. “No one can stop the development of this country. The people of Bangladesh are talented and hardworking. If given the opportunity, our youth will lead the nation forward,” Dr Shafiqur Rahman said.
Highlighting the active role of young voters, he added, “The youth have already expressed their perspective. On 12 February, the people will show a red card to corruption, extortionists and loan defaulters. This election is an opportunity for Bangladeshis to stand up for justice, accountability and development.”
The Jamaat Ameer concluded by appealing to voters across the Dhaka-11 constituency and the nation to unite behind the 11-party alliance.
“With your support, Nahid Islam will take charge to steer Bangladesh toward a brighter and more prosperous future,” he said, emphasising the alliance’s commitment to merit-based governance and youth empowerment.
