National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Organiser for Southern region Hasnat Abdullah on Sunday urged voters to remain vigilant and protect the integrity of the upcoming national election, describing it as a decisive vote to end authoritarian rule in the country.
Addressing an election rally organised by the 11-party alliance at the government college ground in Shahjadpur Upazila of Sirajganj District, Hasnat issued a stern warning to those allegedly planning to seize polling stations or manipulate the voting process.
“Those preparing to capture polling centres should leave home with prayers. If anyone attempts to take over polling stations, they may not be able to return safely. We will ensure that people can cast their votes freely and securely,” he said, drawing loud applause from supporters.
Highlighting the significance of the 13th national parliamentary election, Hasnat said the outcome would shape the country’s governance, law enforcement culture, judicial system and overall political framework for generations to come.
“This election is not only about choosing representatives - it will determine how Bangladesh is governed for the next century,” he added.
Criticising previous elections, the NCP leader alleged widespread irregularities, including bribery and manipulation involving sections of the police administration. He warned that any attempt to repeat such practices in the upcoming polls would be strongly resisted.
“The people of Bangladesh will no longer accept rigged elections or the exploitation of their democratic rights,” he said.
During the rally, NCP candidate SM Saif Mostafiz was formally handed over the party’s election symbol, Shapla Koli, amid enthusiastic slogans from supporters. Hasnat urged voters to rally behind the symbol to ensure change and restore democracy.
The programme was also attended by central assistant secretary-general of Jamaat-e-Islami Rafiqul Islam Khan as the chief guest, along with leaders of allied parties and local activists.
Concluding his speech, Hasnat called on citizens to stand united on election day and defend their right to vote, stressing that a free and fair election is essential for building a just and democratic Bangladesh.
