Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman Tarique Rahman on Sunday said restoring law and order and ensuring public safety would be the party’s top priority if it comes to power in the 13th national parliamentary election scheduled to be held on 12 February.

“Our main objective is to rebuild the state and change the fate of the people,” he said, reiterating BNP’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against corruption.

Tarique made the remarks while addressing an election meeting at Lal Math Maidan under the Dhaka-16 constituency.

He stressed that politics should be centred on public welfare rather than criticism of rival parties, saying people want clear plans to improve their lives.

Outlining BNP’s proposed initiatives, he announced the introduction of a “Family Card” aimed at empowering women economically and an “Agricultural Card” to support farmers. As part of the plan, agricultural loans of up to Tk10,000 would be waived for small and marginal farmers.

Focusing on local development, Tarique pledged to establish a modern hospital in Dhaka-16, address persistent waterlogging problems, improve healthcare services and create employment opportunities.

He also promised easy-term loans for people seeking overseas employment to help reduce unemployment.

Introducing BNP candidate Aminul Haque for Dhaka-16, Tarique formally handed over the party’s election symbol, the Sheaf of Paddy.

He urged voters to closely observe the candidate’s activities until election day, adding that he would ensure Aminul Haque remains focused on constituency development if elected.

Earlier in the day, Tarique Rahman also addressed another meeting at ECB Chattar in Dhaka-17, reaffirming BNP’s commitment to governance reforms and national welfare.
