BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman on Monday emphasised that his party possesses the experience and expertise needed to restore good governance, combat corruption and ensure public safety across Bangladesh.
Speaking at an election campaign at Basabo Tarun Sangha ground in Dhaka, in support of BNP candidate Habibur Rashid Habib for Dhaka-9 constituency, Tarique pointed to the party’s past track record as proof of its ability to govern effectively.
“BNP has demonstrated that it can build institutions, ensure accountability, and maintain law and order,” he said, recalling the party’s tenure from 2001 to 2006.
He highlighted that during that period, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) was fully independent, able to investigate wrongdoings without government interference, and corruption was significantly reduced.
Tarique also stressed improvements in law and order, noting that women could move freely, businesses operated without fear, and public safety was strengthened under the leadership of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.
“Experience matters,” he said. “Only a party with proven governance skills can tackle today’s challenges - corruption, unemployment, waterlogging, inadequate healthcare and weak infrastructure.”
Tarique outlined BNP’s commitment to address local development issues, including renovating hospitals, building and repairing roads and culverts, and implementing effective water management measures.
He also reiterated plans to expand youth employment opportunities and improve education access for women.
“BNP has the knowledge, planning capability and vision to run the state effectively,” he said, urging voters to support the ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ in the upcoming parliamentary election to ensure practical solutions for the nation’s pressing problems.
