BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman on Monday underscored promises of local development, employment generation and expanded healthcare services while addressing an election rally in Dhaka’s Zurain area, urging voters to remain vigilant and make an informed choice in the 12 February general election.
Speaking as the chief guest at the rally in support of BNP candidate Tanvir Ahmed Robin for the Dhaka-4 constituency, Tarique said the upcoming election carries long-term implications for governance and public welfare, rather than being a routine political exercise.
He outlined several infrastructure and service gaps in the constituency, noting the need for a hospital, improved road connectivity, including roads leading to Zia Sarani Khal and Matal’s graveyard, and increased employment opportunities for local residents.
Tarique assured voters that these issues would be addressed if the BNP forms the government.
The BNP chairman said his party envisions a Bangladesh where people can move freely and safely, conduct business without fear, and live securely with their families.
He pointed to development initiatives undertaken during previous BNP governments, particularly under former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, claiming that road and canal projects implemented during that period had benefited the area.
Tarique also highlighted the party’s plans for employment generation, saying that he has held discussions with foreign diplomats to attract overseas investment.
According to him, several ambassadors have expressed interest in encouraging foreign investors to set up industries in Bangladesh if the BNP assumes power.
Emphasising skills development, he said the BNP plans to establish modern vocational and IT training centres in every district, including Dhaka, to prepare young men and women for jobs at home and abroad.
On healthcare, Tarique said Dhaka’s existing facilities are inadequate for its dense population.
He announced plans to build a hospital in Zurain and to gradually recruit 1 lakh healthcare workers nationwide. These workers, he said, would provide door-to-door primary healthcare services while also creating new employment opportunities.
Referring to BNP’s past governance record, Tarique cited economic and administrative achievements under Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, including food self-sufficiency, industrial growth and improvements in law and order.
He also warned voters about alleged attempts to mislead the public through fake ballot seals and urged them to remain alert.
Calling for active participation, Tarique encouraged voters to reach polling centres early on election day and stay until vote counting is completed.
