National Citizen Party (NCP) convener and Jamaat-led alliance candidate for the Dhaka-11 constituency, Nahid Islam, cast his vote early on Thursday morning and urged all citizens to come to polling centres to exercise their franchise.
He voted at A K M Rahmatullah University College in Badda.
Speaking to the media after casting his ballot, Nahid said, “I have cast my very first vote without any interruption. I urge all my countrymen to vote for the restoration of democracy.”
Commenting on incidents across the country the previous night, he added, “Some untoward incidents took place last night across the country. Some people were trying to create a tense environment. We are not focusing on those incidents much because we don’t want any altercation. We want people to come and vote.”
“We expect that the whole voting process will be transparent and fair,” he added.
He expressed confidence that the 11-party alliance would form the government if the polls remain fair and transparent.
When asked whether he would accept an unfavourable outcome, Nahid said, “If the election is fair and transparent, we are ready to accept whatever the people decide for us. But the election must be fair.”
Nahid arrived at the polling centre at 7:50 am.
