BNP-nominated candidate Md Asaduzzaman has been declared the unofficial winner of the Jhenaidah-1 constituency in the 13th National Parliamentary Election, securing a decisive margin over his closest rival.

According to results compiled from 117 polling centers in the constituency, Asaduzzaman received 1,71,598 votes. His nearest competitor, Jamaat-e-Islami-backed candidate Abu Saleh Md Matiar Rahman, garnered 55,577 votes.

Election officials said the counting process concluded without major disruption, and the unofficial results were announced shortly afterward. The margin of victory reflects a significant lead for the BNP candidate in the constituency.

Asaduzzaman, a former attorney general, is considered a prominent political figure in the region. His victory adds to BNP’s overall performance in the nationwide polls, which were held in 299 out of 300 constituencies. Voting in one seat was postponed earlier following the death of a candidate.

The parliamentary election on Thursday was conducted simultaneously with a referendum on the implementation of the July National Charter.

Polling began in the morning and concluded peacefully in the afternoon, with election authorities reporting steady voter turnout throughout the day.

Final official results are expected to be confirmed by the Election Commission after completion of all procedural formalities.
