BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is leading by a significant margin in both Dhaka-17 and Bogura-6 constituencies, according to unofficial results released during the ongoing vote counting process.
As of 9pm on Thursday, BNP sources said Tarique Rahman had secured 60,215 votes in Dhaka-17. His nearest rival, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate SM Khalekuzzaman, had received 24,524 votes, placing him well behind the BNP chief.
In Bogura-6, partial results from 27 polling centers showed Tarique Rahman with 37,465 votes. Jamaat candidate Md Abidur Rahman trailed with 17,428 votes in that constituency.
Election officials said counting was still underway in both seats, with results from several remaining centers yet to be announced. Final outcomes will be confirmed after the completion of counting and official declaration by the Election Commission.
Tarique Rahman, who contested from two constituencies, is seen as one of the key contenders in the 13th National Parliamentary Election. The polls were held alongside a referendum and concluded earlier in the day amid reports of largely peaceful voting.
Further updates are expected as counting continues late into the night.
