Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin has been elected Member of Parliament from the Bhola-3 constituency in the 13th National Parliamentary Election, securing a comfortable lead over his closest rival.
Contesting under the BNP’s electoral symbol “Sheaf of Paddy,” Hafiz Uddin received 1,51,774 votes, according to unofficial results announced after the completion of counting. His nearest competitor, Jamaat-backed candidate Nezamul Haque, garnered 55,660 votes.
Election officials said polling in the constituency began at 7:30am on Thursday and continued uninterrupted until 4:30pm. Voting was conducted under tight security arrangements, with law enforcement agencies deployed across centres to ensure a peaceful environment.
Witnesses and local officials described the atmosphere as orderly and festive, with voters lining up from the early hours to exercise their franchise. No major incidents were reported during polling or counting.
The unofficial results were declared in the evening following the tabulation of ballots from all centres in the constituency. Final confirmation will be issued by the Election Commission after completion of necessary formalities.
Hafiz Uddin’s victory adds to the BNP’s performance in the nationwide polls, which were held simultaneously in 299 constituencies alongside a referendum. Further results from other seats are expected to be announced as counting progresses.
