Jamaat-backed candidate Najibur Rahman, also the son of the late Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami, has emerged victorious in the Pabna-1 constituency in the 13th National Parliamentary Election, according to unofficial results announced after the completion of vote counting.
Najibur Rahman secured a total of 1,28,654 votes, defeating his nearest rival, BNP candidate Shamsur Rahman, who received 1,03,658 votes. The margin of victory stands at 24,996 votes, reflecting a competitive but clear outcome in the constituency.
Election officials said polling in Pabna-1 was conducted peacefully from Thursday morning until the close of voting at 4:30pm. Voters turned out steadily throughout the day amid security arrangements put in place to ensure an orderly process.
Law enforcement agencies and election officials remained on duty at all polling centres to maintain discipline and transparency.
Following the conclusion of voting, ballot counting began at individual centres before results were consolidated and announced unofficially in the evening.
The final results will be formally declared by the Election Commission after completing all necessary procedures.
Najibur Rahman’s victory adds to Jamaat’s performance in several constituencies across the country, as results from the 13th parliamentary polls continue to be compiled and announced.
Further official confirmation is expected from the Election Commission.
