Former state minister for Home Affairs Lutfuzzaman Babar has secured a resounding victory in the Netrakona-4 constituency in the 13th National Parliamentary Election, according to unofficial results released on Thursday evening.
Based on tallies compiled from polling agents at individual centres, the BNP-nominated candidate, contesting with the “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol, received 1,60,351 votes across the constituency, which includes Madan, Mohanganj and Khaliajuri upazilas.
His nearest competitor, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Al Helal Talukdar, who ran with the “Scale” symbol, polled 39,309 votes, giving Babar a commanding margin of 1,21,042 votes.
Speaking after the announcement of the preliminary results, Babar described the victory as belonging to the people.
“I will work tirelessly for local development, stronger infrastructure, and fulfilling public expectations,” he said.
He also thanked voters and election officials for ensuring a smooth and peaceful voting process.
Following the unofficial results, celebrations broke out across Madan, Mohanganj and Khaliajuri upazilas. BNP supporters organised victory processions, distributed sweets and gathered at key public locations to mark the win.
Election officials noted that the final result will be confirmed only after the official declaration by the Election Commission.
Other candidates in the race included Mukhlesur Rahman of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Jolly Talukdar of the Communist Party of Bangladesh and Champa Rani Sarker of the Bangladesh Revolutionary Workers Party, who trailed far behind the leading candidates.
The results from Netrakona-4 reflect a decisive mandate for Babar and a strong performance for BNP in the constituency.
