Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed has secured a decisive victory in the Cox’s Bazar-1 (Chakaria–Pekua) constituency in the 13th National Parliamentary Election, according to preliminary results.
Tallying data from all 177 polling centres, Salahuddin Ahmed, contesting with the BNP symbol “Dhaner Shish” (Sheaf of Paddy), received 2,20,566 votes. His nearest rival, Abdullah Al Farukh of the 11-party alliance, running with the “Daripalla” (Scales) symbol, garnered 1,24,726 votes. The margin of victory stands at 95,840 votes, reflecting overwhelming support for Salahuddin in the constituency.
Cox’s Bazar-1 covers Chakaria and Pekua upazilas, with a total electorate of 5,40,468 voters, including 2,90,275 males and 2,50,192 females. Voting was conducted peacefully across all centres, and preliminary results indicate a strong turnout in favour of the BNP candidate.
Salahuddin Ahmed has previously been elected as a Member of Parliament from this constituency in the 6th, 7th and 8th National Parliamentary Elections. With this latest win, he secures a fourth term in parliament, reinforcing his long-standing political influence in the region.
Observers noted that Salahuddin’s campaign focused on development initiatives, local infrastructure and voter engagement, which contributed to his broad support.
The final official results will be announced by the Election Commission after completing verification and consolidation of all ballots.
The outcome in Cox’s Bazar-1 demonstrates BNP’s continued strength in the constituency and marks a significant milestone in Salahuddin Ahmed’s political career.
