National Citizen Party (NCP) spokesperson and chairman of its Central Election Management Committee, Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, said on Friday that the party would extend cooperation to any government formed through a fully free and fair election.

“We want to make it clear that whoever comes to power through a fair election, the NCP, out of respect for democracy, will assist in running the government and the state. However, it must be one hundred per cent fair,” he said at an emergency press conference at the party’s central office.

The NCP leader sought clarification on the delay in announcing results in certain constituencies despite counting being completed at the polling centres, which he said had raised questions among party leaders and activists.

He also alleged that in some centres, recounting had been carried out following objections from rival polling agents.

He called on the Election Commission to thoroughly investigate the issues before finalising the results in those seats.

“Until these issues are properly examined and clear explanations provided, the results of those constituencies should not be officially declared,” he said.

The NCP spokesperson further noted that in several constituencies, the margins of victory or defeat ranged from a few hundred to a few thousand votes, creating a need for recounting.

“If centre-wise results, returning officer declarations, and media reports do not match, it naturally creates doubt regarding the neutrality of the vote counting,” he said.

He urged the Election Commission to investigate where necessary, conduct recounts, and issue clear statements to remove any confusion.
