Following the unofficial declaration of a landslide victory in the 13th general election, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party has announced its firm intention to form a new government by Sunday, 15 February 2026. The party leadership is moving swiftly to transition from the campaign phase to administration.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the party’s Secretary General, addressed reporters on Friday from his residence in Thakurgaon. He was speaking shortly after being unofficially declared the winner of the Thakurgaon-1 constituency.
Outlining the immediate roadmap, Fakhrul stated that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party is prepared to move quickly to implement its 31-point reform agenda. He also reiterated that the commitments outlined in the July Charter remain a core priority for the incoming government.
The Secretary General noted that the party aims to take office within the next 48 hours. He emphasised that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party intends to lead an inclusive parliament, working alongside all participating parties to ensure a stable democratic transition.
According to Fakhrul, the implementation of the election manifesto will begin gradually. This measured approach is designed to systematically address the immediate national challenges facing the country.
Reflecting on the broader election results, Fakhrul described the party as one deeply rooted in public support. He asserted that the sweeping mandate is a direct reflection of the people’s trust in the party’s vision for a democratic Bangladesh.
He also addressed the performance of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, which secured the second-highest number of seats in the polls. While acknowledging their electoral gains, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir labelled the organisation as an extremist party.
Expanding on this point, he held the previous Awami League administration responsible for Jamaat’s growth. He argued that years of oppressive rule and the systematic suppression of mainstream politics created the vacuum that allowed such forces to rise.
In a concerted move to maintain order following the high-stakes vote, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party has formally requested its supporters to refrain from organising victory processions. The leadership is prioritising stability and peace in the immediate post-election period.
Instead of street rallies, Fakhrul called for nationwide prayer gatherings to be held after Jummah prayers on Friday. He concluded by expressing profound gratitude to the voters for their overwhelming support in this historic election.
