Mirza Abbas, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidate, has been elected unofficially from Dhaka-8 in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election.
Abbas secured 59,366 votes, while his nearest rival, Mohammad Nasir Uddin Patwary of the National Citizen Party, received 54,127 votes.
In the accompanying referendum, 84,501 voters cast “Yes” votes, while 32,463 voted “No”.
The results were announced on Friday at the Result Collection and Dissemination Centre at Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon.
Voting for the election had been held on Thursday from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm across 42,779 polling centres in 299 constituencies nationwide.
A total of 12,771,793 voters were registered to cast their ballots, including 6,482,361 males, 6,288,520 females, and 1,232 voters from the third gender.
