Jamaat dominates Rangpur with five seats, NCP secures one

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has won five out of six parliamentary constituencies in the Rangpur region in the 13th National Parliamentary Election, while the National Citizen Party (NCP) secured the remaining seat, according to unofficial results announced in the respective constituencies.

In Rangpur-1, from 139 polling centres, Jamaat candidate Md Raihan Siraji (Scales) secured 1,45,088 votes. BNP’s Mokarram Hossain Sujon (Sheaf of Paddy) received 69,407 votes, while ATM Golam Mostafa of Islami Andolan Bangladesh (Hand Fan) polled 2,325 votes. Raihan Siraji was unofficially declared the winner.

In 137 centres under Rangpur-2 constituency, Jamaat’s ATM Azharul Islam (Scales) obtained 1,39,680 votes, defeating BNP’s Mohammad Ali Sarker (79,910). Anichur Islam Mondol of the Jatiya Party (Plough) received 33,689 votes, and Ashraf Ali of Islami Andolan Bangladesh got 5,556 votes.

In Rangpur-3, Jamaat candidate Md Mahbubur Rahman Belal won with 1,75,827 votes. BNP’s Shamsuzzaman Samu secured 84,578 votes, while Jatiya Party Chairman Golam Mohammad Quader received 43,185 votes.

NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain (Shapla Koli) won with 1,47,947 votes from all 163 centres, narrowly defeating BNP’s Emdadul Haque Bhorsa (139,616) in Rangpur-4.

In Rangpur-5, Jamaat’s Md Golam Rabbani (Scales) secured 1,75,208 votes, ahead of the BNP candidate (114,141).

In a close race across 114 centres under Rangpur-6 constituency, Jamaat’s Nurul Amin (1,18,890) edged past BNP’s Saiful Islam (1,16,919). Nur Alam Mia of Jatiya Party received 1,264 votes.

Overall, the results signal a strong surge for Jamaat in Rangpur, capturing five of six seats, while the NCP made a notable breakthrough with one victory. Political observers describe the outcome as a significant shift in the region’s electoral dynamics.
