Nazrul Islam Khan, BNP Standing Committee member and chairman of the party’s Election Steering Committee, said on Friday that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party expects to achieve better results in future elections than in the 13th parliamentary polls.

Speaking to reporters after the Election Commission announced the official results, he said the party had fielded candidates in 292 constituencies with the expectation of winning all of them.

“Whenever someone contests an election, they hope to win. Even a candidate who receives only a few hundred votes enters the race aiming for victory,” he said.

Asked whether the BNP was satisfied with the outcome, Nazrul Islam Khan said complete satisfaction is rare. “Who is ever 100 per cent satisfied? It is very difficult to be fully satisfied. However, we are reasonably satisfied,” he added.

He noted that compared with many previous elections, the latest polls saw significantly fewer casualties, less damage, and less destruction of state resources.

“By the infinite grace of Allah, compared to many past elections, there were far fewer casualties, much less damage, and far less destruction of state resources. Nothing of that scale happened this time. This is an important matter,” he said.

Nazrul Islam Khan also highlighted that a culture of voter apathy had developed over a long period during which people were deprived of their voting rights.

“We have not yet been able to fully overcome that situation. We hope that in the coming days we will generate greater interest among voters so that everyone goes to the polling centres and exercises their right to choose those who will run the state,” he added.
