Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has said his party accepts the overall results of the 13th National Parliamentary Election and will act as a responsible and principled opposition in the new parliament.

In a statement shared on his verified Facebook page on Saturday, the Jamaat chief expressed appreciation to party leaders, activists and supporters who worked across the country during the election campaign. He acknowledged that some members were disappointed with aspects of the outcome but urged them to remain steadfast and patient.

According to Dr Shafiqur Rahman, winning 77 parliamentary seats represents a significant expansion of Jamaat’s presence in the legislature.

He described the result as a solid platform for future political engagement rather than a defeat.

“Political journeys are often long and gradual,” he noted, adding that shifts in public support are a natural part of democratic politics.

The Jamaat Ameer emphasised that democracy requires perseverance, public trust and disciplined organisation.

He said the party would focus on strengthening democratic culture, protecting citizens’ rights, and advocating for transparency and accountability in governance.

While alleging that some party activists faced intimidation and harassment during the campaign period, he commended their resilience and commitment to peaceful political participation.

Reaffirming Jamaat’s adherence to the rule of law, Dr Shafiqur Rahman pledged that the party would contribute constructively in parliament, holding the government accountable while cooperating on issues of national interest.

“Our movement is not confined to a single election,” he said, underscoring Jamaat’s intention to continue its political activities through lawful, peaceful and principled means in the years ahead.
