Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman Tarique Rahman on Saturday described the party’s landslide victory in the 13th National Parliamentary Election as a triumph for democracy and the people of Bangladesh, while urging all political forces to work together for a “humane Bangladesh”.

Speaking at a press conference at the InterContinental Dhaka, Tarique extended heartfelt gratitude to citizens across the country for their support.

“This victory belongs to democracy, this victory belongs to Bangladesh, and this victory belongs to the people who aspire for democracy. From today, we are free,” he said.

He added that the party is preparing to take on serious challenges, including a fragile economy, weakened law and order, and dysfunctional constitutional and statutory institutions left behind by previous administrations.

While addressing the press conference, the BNP chairman pledged that his party would work to strengthen democracy, address economic challenges, and build a just and inclusive Bangladesh.

Tarique Rahman also emphasised the importance of national unity, calling on all political parties to rise above differences and collaborate for the overall development of the country.

“National unity is strength, division is weakness,” he said, urging collective efforts to consolidate democracy and ensure a stable, inclusive future.

He congratulated all the political parties that participated in the election, noting that the BNP’s victory represents not only a party success but a win for pro-democracy forces across Bangladesh.

Members of the BNP Standing Committee were also present at the press conference.

According to final results, the BNP secured 209 seats in the 13th Parliamentary Election. Tarique Rahman was elected from both Dhaka-17 and Bogura-6 constituencies.
