The 11-party coalition led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami announced on Sunday that it will hold a protest rally in Dhaka on Monday, citing alleged irregularities, vote manipulation and post-election violence during the 13th National Parliamentary Election.

The decision came following a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin at the Election Commission (EC) office around midday.

Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad and Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer were present at the time.

Addressing reporters after the meeting, Hamidur Rahman Azad alleged that members and supporters of the alliance have faced attacks at their homes in the aftermath of the elections.

“This demonstration is being organised in response to these incidents,” he said, announcing that the rally will start from Baitul Mukarram in the capital.

He further claimed that voter turnout in several areas was negatively affected due to intimidation, fear and pressure.

Agents of the alliance, he said, were forcibly removed from some polling stations during vote counting, raising serious concerns over the credibility of the results.

“The irregularities we observed - including erasures, overwriting and alterations in result sheets - undermine the transparency of the election process,” Hamidur said.

He added that in many cases, signatures of the original polling agents were missing, and in Dhaka-6, the result sheet had reportedly been filled in pencil.

Hamidur also noted that despite repeated complaints at both local and national levels, the EC has not provided satisfactory responses.

The alliance warned that it may intensify its protest programme if the alleged post-election violence and irregularities continue.
