BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman visited the residence of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Sunday evening, just two days before forming the next government following his party’s overwhelming victory in the National Parliamentary Election.

Tarique reached the Jamaat chief’s home in Bashundhara Residential Area at around 7:10pm to hold a meeting, which political observers have described as a positive post-election gesture aimed at fostering cooperation and dialogue among major political forces.

The discussions are expected to focus on ensuring a smooth transition and building consensus on key national issues.

Following the meeting with Shafiqur Rahman, Tarique is scheduled to visit National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam at his residence in Bailey Road at around 8pm.

These visits reflect Tarique’s broader strategy of reaching out to different political stakeholders to encourage unity and stability in the country.

Earlier, Tarique had urged all political parties and forces to collaborate in creating a “safe and humane Bangladesh,” emphasising the importance of national cooperation and inclusive governance in the post-election period.

In Thursday’s election, the BNP secured 209 seats, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami won 68, and the NCP gained six.

Analysts say the upcoming meetings will be crucial in shaping the early agenda of the new government and fostering constructive relationships with other parties, signalling a willingness to work across political lines for the development and stability of the nation.
