Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman Tarique Rahman has extended a formal invitation to Mohibullah Babunagari, ameer of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the country’s new government as a distinguished guest.

The invitation was conveyed during a telephone conversation on Monday afternoon, according to party sources.

The ceremony, which marks the beginning of a new chapter in Bangladesh’s political landscape, is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Complex in Dhaka.

Party insiders described the invitation as a gesture aimed at fostering inclusivity and strengthening ties with key political and religious stakeholders following the BNP’s sweeping victory in the 13th National Parliamentary Election.

In addition to reaching out to Hefazat’s leadership, Tarique is expected to meet Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, ameer of Islami Andolan Bangladesh and widely known as Charmonai Pir, later on Monday evening.

The courtesy meeting comes amid BNP’s efforts to engage with diverse political and religious groups to promote cooperation and unity in the country.

The swearing-in event, anticipated to be historic and widely attended, will officially inaugurate the BNP-led government after a significant electoral mandate.

By inviting prominent religious leaders, Tarique Rahman appears focused on signalling a spirit of inclusivity and collaboration, emphasising the importance of partnership with civil society and religious organisations in shaping the new government’s agenda.

The upcoming ceremonies and meetings underscore the BNP’s commitment to broad-based engagement, while also highlighting Tarique’s strategy of forging connections with influential societal figures ahead of the new administration assuming office.
