Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and opposition leader in Parliament Dr Shafiqur Rahman has strongly criticised President Mohammed Shahabuddin, describing his recent public statements regarding the political developments of 5 August 2024 as inconsistent and inappropriate for someone holding the highest constitutional office.

In a post shared on his verified Facebook page on Tuesday afternoon, Dr Shafiqur questioned the President’s account of events surrounding the resignation of the former prime minister during the political transition.

He alleged that key details relating to that day were not fully disclosed and claimed that the President’s latest remarks differ from what was communicated at the time of the transition.

According to the Jamaat chief, the explanation provided to political leaders present on 5 August does not align with the narrative presented later to the public.

“The President has withheld many facts regarding 5 August 2024,” Shafiqur wrote, suggesting that there are contradictions between what was said during internal discussions and what has since been stated publicly.

He further asked whether the President would reconcile the differences between what millions of citizens heard on that day and what is being asserted now.

“What he told the leaders then and what he is saying today are not the same,” he observed, stressing that such inconsistencies raise serious concerns.

The Jamaat leader also asserted that the public remains fully aware of the circumstances surrounding the transition and cannot be misled by conflicting accounts.

He concluded by stating actions or statements that undermine transparency from the country’s highest office are unacceptable.
