Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has strongly criticised President Md Sahabuddin, alleging that his recent interview statements amounted to a breach of constitutional oath by disclosing sensitive and confidential state issues.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Jamaat Secretary General and former MP Mia Golam Parwar said the President’s comments have raised serious concerns about constitutional responsibility and the protection of classified information.
Golam Parwar said the Presidency represents the highest constitutional authority in the country and that every remark made from such an office carries national implications.
He argued that the holder of the position is legally and morally bound to uphold state confidentiality and adhere strictly to the oath of office.
He accused President Sahabuddin of publicly revealing internal matters that should remain confidential, describing the action as incompatible with the dignity and obligations attached to the presidency.
According to Golam Parwar, the statements have triggered debate and uncertainty among citizens regarding constitutional continuity and institutional discipline.
Emphasising accountability and transparency, the Jamaat leader said all public officeholders must exercise restraint and act within constitutional limits.
He urged the President to respect legal boundaries and safeguard the integrity of the office in future communications.
The statement comes amid growing political reactions to the President’s interview remarks. It marks the second public criticism from Jamaat within days, following earlier comments by party Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman who termed the president’s conduct “unacceptable” and raised concerns over inconsistencies in his account of political developments surrounding 5 August.
