Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Thursday urged all political and social organisations to work together beyond party lines to promote peace, discipline and national development.
He made the call while addressing a views-exchange meeting between senior law enforcement officials and Members of Parliament from Dhaka-14 and Dhaka-16 constituencies.
Emphasising the importance of coordinated efforts, Dr Shafiqur Rahman said law enforcement agencies play a vital role in safeguarding citizens’ lives and property and in establishing a justice-based society.
He stressed the need for building greater public trust through people-friendly and effective policing.
“The confidence of the people must be won to ensure lasting peace and stability,” he said.
The meeting reviewed the overall law and order situation in Dhaka-14 and Dhaka-16, focusing on citizens’ safety, anti-drug and anti-terrorism operations, prevention of juvenile gang activities, and measures to maintain social harmony.
MP Mir Ahmad Bin Qasem (Dhaka-14) and MP Abdul Baten (Dhaka-16) highlighted challenges faced at the grassroots level and called for stronger coordination between law enforcement agencies and community stakeholders to curb crime while continuing development initiatives.
Jamaat Central Executive Council Member and Dhaka North City Ameer Selim Uddin, Nayeb-e-Ameer Abdur Rahman Musa, and officials from law enforcement agencies also attended the meeting.
Representatives of the agencies sought public cooperation and outlined ongoing special drives and awareness programme aimed at strengthening security and maintaining stability in the two constituencies.
