Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen paid a courtesy visit to Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Tuesday morning, discussing bilateral ties and matters of mutual interest.

The meeting took place at 11am at the Opposition Leader’s office in Bashundhara area of the capital and was held in a cordial atmosphere, according to sources familiar with the discussion.

During the meeting, Ambassador Yao congratulated Dr Shafiqur Rahman on his election as Leader of the Opposition and extended best wishes for his responsibilities in parliament.

He expressed hope for continued engagement and cooperation between the two sides.

Both leaders held broad discussions covering economic cooperation, trade relations, political engagement and diplomatic collaboration between Bangladesh and China.

They emphasised the importance of further strengthening ties to promote mutual development and deepen partnership in various sectors.

The conversation also reflected optimism about expanding cooperation in areas such as investment, infrastructure development and people-to-people exchanges.

Deputy Head of Mission at the Chinese Embassy Dr Liu Yuying, Director of the Political Section Zhang Jing, Jamaat Secretary General and former MP Mia Golam Parwar, and Special Adviser on Foreign Affairs to the Jamaat Ameer Barrister Mir Ahmed Bin Qasem Arman, MP, among others, were also present at the meeting.

Both sides expressed commitment to maintaining regular dialogue to enhance bilateral understanding and cooperation in the coming years.
