A delegation from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) met with US Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs S Paul Kapur to exchange views on bilateral relations and policy developments.

The meeting took place on Thursday morning at the residence of the US ambassador in the capital’s Gulshan, according to BNP Media Cell Member Sayrul Kabir Khan.

The five-member delegation, led by BNP Standing Committee Member Abdul Moyeen Khan, arrived at the residence around 11am and concluded the discussion at approximately 11:50am.

Other members of the delegation included Barrister Naushad Zamir, Mahbubur Rahman, Nayeba Yusuf and Nipun Roy Chowdhury.

After the meeting, Moyeen Khan briefed reporters, saying that the United States has historically maintained friendly relations with Bangladesh and has supported the country in various areas.

He noted that with a new government in place, it is natural for international partners to seek updates on Bangladesh’s political situation, policy priorities and future direction.

“Today’s discussion focused on these matters as well as strengthening mutual understanding and cooperation, particularly with the United States,” he said.

Responding to questions about whether any agreements were discussed or signed, the BNP leader clarified that the talks centred mainly on people-to-people engagement and broader policy perspectives of future governance.

He added that the discussion also covered global developments, diplomatic ties, and economic cooperation between the two countries, given the rapidly changing international landscape.
