Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammed Taher on Thursday said the party has submitted formal complaints regarding alleged irregularities in 53 constituencies during the national election held on 12 February.

At a press briefing at the party’s central office, Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammed Taher accused key figures of allegedly influencing political developments behind the scenes.

He referred to Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman, claiming that when Khalilur served as National Security Adviser to the interim government, he reportedly participated in a special meeting in London aimed at bringing the BNP to power.

Taher alleged that some believe this involvement contributed to what he described as “election engineering” from within the interim administration.

He further claimed that Khalilur Rahman later secured a cabinet position in the BNP-led government as recognition for his role and suggested that questioning him in a formal investigation could reveal the truth.

Taher also cited remarks made by former adviser Rizwana Hasan in a television interview, arguing that her comments implied acknowledgment of political manipulation in the electoral process.

He questioned why Jamaat was allegedly prevented from emerging as a dominant political force and demanded clarity on who was involved in the alleged process.

On parliamentary matters, he said the party would consider any proposal regarding the Deputy Speaker post if it is formally presented and if progress is made on implementing the July Charter in accordance with the constitution.

Addressing law and order concerns, Taher expressed alarm over reported incidents of violence, including crimes against children and attacks allegedly carried out under political protection.

He criticised delays in filing cases at police stations.

He also mentioned discussions with US Assistant Secretary Paul Kapur, saying Jamaat encouraged investment in artificial intelligence and expressed support for peaceful diplomatic solutions to global conflicts.

Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan, MP, Central Executive Council Member Saiful Alam Khan Milon, MP, Central Working Committee Member Zahidur Rahman, and Senior Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Shishir Md Monir, among others, were also present at the press briefing.
