Jamaat Ameer honours Liberation War martyrs on Independence Day

Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman paid tribute to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War by laying wreaths at the National Memorial in Savar on the occasion of Bangladesh’s 56th Independence and National Day.

In the early hours of Thursday, Dr Shafiqur Rahman offered prayers for the souls of all those who sacrificed their lives for the nation’s freedom.

He also prayed for peace, stability, prosperity, and the continued well-being of the country and its people. The solemn ceremony was a reflection of respect and reverence for the nation’s heroes, marking the significance of Independence Day in the country’s history.

Accompanying him were senior Jamaat-e-Islami leaders, including Nayeb-e-Ameer ATM Azharul Islam, Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam, Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan, Central Executive Council members Nurul Islam Bulbul and Mobarak Hossain, as well as Dhaka City South Secretary General Dr Shafiqul Islam Masud.

The gathering highlighted the continued recognition of the sacrifices made during Bangladesh’s nine-month-long struggle for independence in 1971. It also served as a reminder to the nation of the courage, dedication, and patriotism of the freedom fighters who laid down their lives to establish an independent Bangladesh.

Dr Shafiqur Rahman’s tribute, along with prayers and wreath-laying, underscored the importance of commemorating the Liberation War and passing on its legacy to future generations.
