The National Citizen Party (NCP) has announced a preliminary list of its mayoral candidates for five upcoming city corporation elections, including the two major municipal bodies in the capital.

The announcement was made on Sunday by the party’s Convener and Opposition Chief Whip in Parliament Nahid Islam during an emergency press conference held at the party’s central office in Dhaka.

Party leaders said the nominations are part of the NCP’s early electoral preparations and may be finalised following further internal consultations.

According to the announced list, NCP Spokesperson Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan has been selected to contest the mayoral race in Dhaka South City Corporation. For Dhaka North City Corporation, the party has nominated its Senior Joint Convener Ariful Islam Adeeb.

Outside the capital, the NCP has picked Advocate Tariqul Islam as its candidate for Cumilla City Corporation. Advocate Abdur Rahman Afzal will represent the party in Sylhet City Corporation, while Mobashwer Ali has been nominated for Rajshahi City Corporation.

Party insiders indicated that the selection process focused on organisational experience, grassroots support and public engagement. The leadership also hinted at further strategic planning ahead of the polls to strengthen the party’s position in urban local government bodies.

The NCP is expected to formally confirm the nominations after completing its internal review process and assessing the overall political landscape in the coming weeks.
