Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on Friday demanded a re-election in the Bogura-6 and Sherpur-3 constituencies, alleging widespread irregularities and vote rigging during the polls held a day earlier.
The demand was raised by the party’s Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar at a protest rally held at the north gate of the National Mosque Baitul Mukarram in Dhaka after Jumma prayers.
Party leaders, activists and supporters joined the demonstration, expressing concern over what they described as a compromised electoral process.
Addressing the gathering, Golam Parwar claimed that the election in both constituencies were severely affected by irregularities, including the forced removal of polling agents from centres and intimidation of voters.
He alleged that ruling party activists were involved in these activities, which undermined the credibility of the polls.
He further said that incidents such as ballot stuffing and partiality by some election officials were reported throughout the day, making the results unacceptable.
The Jamaat leader urged the Election Commission to immediately cancel the results and announce fresh voting to ensure that the people’s verdict is reflected.
The party had earlier raised similar complaints on polling day, particularly in Sherpur-3, where its candidate announced a boycott midway through voting, citing harassment and irregularities.
Following these developments, Jamaat has taken a firm stance, insisting that a complete re-poll in both constituencies is necessary to restore public confidence in the electoral system and ensure a fair and transparent outcome.
