The 11-party alliance led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a 15-day nationwide movement programme demanding the implementation of reforms proposed in the “July Charter” through a national referendum.
Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar made the announcement on Thursday at a press conference held at Al Falah Hall in the capital’s Moghbazar.
He outlined a series of political programmes scheduled to begin from Friday.
According to the plan, the movement will start with a mass procession in Dhaka. Similar demonstrations will be held in all divisional cities on 25 April, followed by district-level programmes across the country on 2 May.
Alongside street demonstrations, the alliance will also carry out daily leaflet distribution campaigns and organise seminars in major district towns during the 15-day programme period.
After completing the district-level activities on 2 May, the alliance is planning to escalate its movement further. This next phase will include rallies in divisional headquarters, protest processions in 12 city corporations, and a large central rally in Dhaka at a later date, the Jamaat leader said.
The decision to launch the programme was taken earlier in the day at a meeting of the alliance’s top leadership. The meeting was chaired by the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and Jamaat Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman.
Senior leaders from several allied parties attended the meeting, including Opposition Chief Whip and NCP Convener Nahid Islam, President of the Liberal Democratic Party of Bangladesh Colonel (retd) Oli Ahmed, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Ameer Mamunul Haque, AB Party General Secretary Asaduzzaman Fuad, and Bangladesh Labour Party Chairman Mostafizur Rahman.
The alliance leaders said the movement aims to press for political reforms and ensure that the proposed changes are implemented through a public referendum, as outlined in their July Charter framework.
