BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday framed the party’s current political phase as a shift from electoral struggle to what he called a difficult task of national reconstruction, saying Bangladesh requires rebuilding across multiple sectors.
He made the remarks while speaking at a closed-door views-exchange meeting with district level leaders of BNP and representatives of its associate organisations at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) auditorium in Dhaka.
The meeting began at around 10:45am and focused on organisational strategy and post-election priorities.
Mirza Fakhrul said the party had already completed what he described as a long political struggle aimed at safeguarding the country, its people and democratic processes. He told party leaders that this phase of political contest had ended with BNP forming the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
He added that the party now faces a far more complex responsibility, which he described as addressing structural weaknesses across the state and public institutions. According to him, various sectors of governance and administration reflect signs of stagnation and underperformance, which require urgent attention.
Describing the situation as one of widespread institutional decline, Mirza Fakhrul said the task ahead involves restoring functionality and rebuilding systems from the ground up.
He emphasised that this responsibility extends beyond the party itself and includes the government and the broader state structure.
He expressed confidence in the leadership of Tarique Rahman, saying the party had achieved both political mobilisation and electoral success under his guidance.
Mirza Fakhrul also urged grassroots leaders to strengthen organisational discipline and coordination at all levels.
He stressed the importance of recognising party sacrifices and improving internal structure to meet future challenges.
Senior BNP leaders, including members of the standing committee and central committees of affiliated organisations, attended the meeting.
