National Citizen Party central Joint Member Secretary Tareq Reza was released on bail from Jhenaidah District Jail on Monday morning after a court approved his petition in a case filed by a Chhatra Dal leader.
He was freed at around 10:30am after securing bail from the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Jhenaidah.
Lawyers representing the NCP leader submitted the bail petition before the court at around 10:00am. Advocate Ismail Hossain appeared for the defence during the hearing.
Following arguments from both sides, the court granted bail to Tareq Reza.
However, the court rejected the bail plea of National Youth Power central leader Ayon Rahman Khan, who was arrested in the same case.
Police had produced both men before a Jhenaidah court on Sunday evening after their arrest.
Jhenaidah Sadar Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Mahfuz Hossain confirmed the developments during an emergency press briefing held at around 10:30pm on Sunday.
