Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has proposed an alternative national budget worth Tk8,39,000 crore for the fiscal year 2026-27, presenting what it described as a “people-oriented” financial framework with emphasis on governance, debt management and key social sectors.

The proposal was formally unveiled on Tuesday at a programme held at the Al Falah Auditorium in Dhaka’s Moghbazar. The outline of the budget was presented by Saiful Alam Khan Milon, a central executive council member and Member of Parliament for Dhaka-12, on behalf of the party.

According to the proposal, the largest share of the budget - Tk2,02,000 crore, or about 24.09 per cent - has been allocated to public administration, reflecting the party’s priority on strengthening governance and institutional capacity.

Debt servicing is identified as the second-largest expenditure area, with Tk1,27,000 crore allocated for interest payments on domestic and foreign loans, accounting for 15.19 per cent of the total budget.

Education and technology receive Tk1,25,000 crore (14.96 per cent), highlighting a focus on human capital development and digital transformation.

Other major allocations include Tk65,340 crore for transport and communication infrastructure, Tk51,670 crore for agriculture, and Tk48,150 crore for social security and welfare programmes.

The health sector and local government and rural development are each allocated around Tk45,200 crore. Additional allocations have been proposed for defence (Tk43,460 crore), public order and safety (Tk34,450 crore), and power and energy (Tk24,950 crore).

Smaller portions of the budget are directed towards housing, industrial services, recreation, culture, religion, and other development sectors, completing the party’s alternative fiscal blueprint for the upcoming financial year.
